The Pirates 2018 Season
The Poinsettia Swim Team Board is very excited about a new year of SAIL FUN!! We are going to open online team registration on March 1st and the site will be open until March 15th. Please go online and register your swimmers! You can find our online registration at www.poinsettiapirates.org. You can also find the TEAM Handbook on the website. Please read and be familiar with all aspects of the swim team.
There will be a Parent Meeting (specific date TBA) at the end of April. At least one parent must attend this meeting. If your swimmer is a new team member please be sure to bring a copy of the swimmers birth certificate to this meeting.
New Swimmers: As a “welcome to the team” gift, we will give all new swimmers (who haven’t been on the team before) a latex swim cap with their last name and our team logo on it. Returning swimmers always have the option of purchasing a cap with their name on it. These are available in the team store (two cap minimum purchase for new orders from returning swimmers). New team members must also attend a coach’s evaluation on May 12th at 3pm at the Poinsettia Pool.
News: A huge thank you is in order to Coach Jennifer Watts for all her hard work over the years for our team. She has taken us to a Founders and a Metcalf win. Last year we finished at the top of our division! She will be graduating with her Master’s soon and will be moving on to the next phase in her career and has stepped down as coach of the Pirates. We will miss her poolside but she will still be around as a Pirate Parent!
Staffing Changes: The PST Executive Board made some staffing/organizational changes for the coming year. The team will now have one Head Coach and two Assistant Coaches. We will not have Junior Assistant Coaches.
We are excited to announce Dylan Ogle as the 2018 PST Head Coach. Many of you will remember Dylan as a team member who swam with us as recently as last summer. Dylan has worked as a nanny for two summers and as a volunteer swim coach at for our own team. He is currently attending Valparaiso University where he swims with the Men’s Swimming program. He has held the position of Daily Motivational Coordinator for his team. He was a Horizon League Conference Finalist in 2017 in the Men’s 200 yard butterfly. He’s also an Arena Pro Series Qualifier in the same event. Dylan has been swimming competitively for over seven years. Welcome Coach Dylan!
We also want to welcome Alyssa Mahle as one of our new Assistant Coaches. Alyssa swam on her High School team and is currently swimming for Baldwin Wallace University. We are very excited to have her on staff. Alyssa was a three year district qualifier and lettered in swimming in High School. She also received the Most Valuable Swimmer Award (a coach’s award) during her High School swimming career. As a member of the Baldwin Wallace team, she placed 14th individually in the 100 backstroke and her team placed 4th overall at the 2016 OAC Championships. Welcome Coach Alyssa!
Last we’d like to welcome Courtney Severns as a new Assistant Coach. Courtney swam on her Middle and High School swim teams where she lettered in swimming and was the captain. She is currently on the Baldwin Wallace Swimming and Diving team where she hold the position of Captain. Her relay team holds the school record for the 200 free relay and received the Most Improved Swimmer Award her Freshman year. She is also a cheerleader for Baldwin Wallace. We can’t wait to hear her pull for our kids! Courtney is AED, First Aid & Safety certified as well as CPR Certified from the American Heart Association. She also has experience as a lifeguard. Welcome Coach Courtney!
