The Pirates 2019 Season
The Poinsettia Swim Team Committee is very excited about a new year of SAIL FUN!! We are going to open online team registration on April 1st and the site will be open until April 15th. Please go online and register your swimmers! You can find our online registration at www.poinsettiapirates.org. You can also find the TEAM Handbook on the website. Please read and be familiar with all aspects of the swim team.
There will be a Parent Meeting (specific date TBA) at the end of April. At least one parent must attend this meeting. If your swimmer is a new team member please be sure to bring a copy of the swimmers birth certificate to this meeting.
Coaches Update: We are excited to announce Dylan Ogle will return as the PST Head Coach. He is currently attending Valparaiso University. Dylan has been swimming competitively for over seven years. Welcome back, Coach Dylan!
Alyssa Mahle will be our Assistant Coach. Alyssa swam on her High School team and is currently swimming for Baldwin Wallace University. We are very excited to have her on staff again this summer. Alyssa was a three year district qualifier and lettered in swimming in High School. She also received the Most Valuable Swimmer Award (a coach’s award) during her High School swimming career. As a member of the Baldwin Wallace team, she placed 14th individually in the 100 backstroke and her team placed 4th overall at the 2016 OAC Championships. Welcome back, Coach Alyssa!
Meet Schedule: SAIL meets this year are on Friday May 31st, Thursday June 6th, Thursday June 13th, Thursday June 20th and Thursday June 27th. All meets start at 5:30pm.
The divisional meet will be held on Friday, July 12th for the 11 and older group, and Saturday, July 13th for the 10 and under group at the Thornblade Pool.
Championships & Classics will be held on Saturday & Sunday, July 20th & 21st at the Westside Aquatic Center.
Fee Schedule: The team fees cover the following: team membership, concessions start up, ribbons, year-end party, trophies/awards, team t-shirts, insurance and league splash fees.
Fees are $130 for the first swimmer in each family and $90 for each additional swimmer in that family.

Additional spirit wear items such as swim caps, car magnets and t-shirts will be available for purchase in the team store online.
Swimsuits: Team suits are available through Alpine Ski Center. It is not mandatory to purchase a team suit. If your swimmer chooses not to purchase a team suit, please make sure they wear a solid red, solid black or a mixed red and black suit.
Suit order must be placed through Alpine before April 29th to ensure delivery prior to our first meet. Our suit this year is the Dolfin Hurricane in red and black (click here to view the suit https://issuu.com/gkelite/docs/team_guide_low_res_... This suit retails at $48.99 for girls and $41.99 for jammers. We are getting these at a deeply discounted rate through Apline. Your base price will be $36.75 for girls and $31.50 for boys. Please go to Apline for a fitting and to place your order. PST will not sell or collect money for suits. This is a change from prior years.

Practice Updates: This year we are offering eight sessions of dry land conditioning at 5pm at the pool parking lot on the following dates: April 29th, 30th, May 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th. Swim practices (in the water) are held Monday through Thursday. Our first water practice will be on Monday May 13th; swimmers that are 10 years and under practice from 5 - 6 pm and swimmers that are 11 years and older practice from 6 – 7pm. After the last day of school, we will begin holding morning practice Monday thru Thursday from 8 – 9am for 10 years and under and 9 – 10am for 11 years and older. There is a change this year for afternoon practices beginning June 10th. 8 and under swimmers will practice from 4-4:30, followed by two 45 minute practices. Your swimmer's practice time will be assigned by the coaches (based on team size and ages). Pool Membership: You must either be a member of the Poinsettia Pool or a member of an Associate Team. Pool Membership is through the Poinsettia Community Club (PCC). If you are a member of an associate team, you are not required to join the Poinsettia Pool, however PCC does charge a $50 pool usage fee to all members of Associate Teams.
Spirit Activities: The Spirit Team organizes lot of fun activities such as:
- Meeting at a predetermined location after each swim meet (this is usually the Sonic in Simpsonville) to enjoy a meal together
- Friday morning Ribbons Breakfast the morning after each meet.
- Organizing a group lunch outing on Thursday before each meet
- Bowling, Skating, Ice Cream outings, Trampoline Park outings, etc.
- A Season Kick-Off Party
- A Season End Party
- And a lot more…..
We are so glad you’re here! This will be the fastest ten weeks of your life but it is so much fun. We love to watch our swimmers work hard and do their best.
